Alpha 3 is seeking Project Controls Associates for work in the electric utility market. Applicants should have at least five years of scheduling, project controls, and project management support experience in the engineering and construction industry.

This is a full-time position with a hybrid work schedule. Three days per week (typically Tuesday-Thursday) are expected to be in the office and two days per week from home. Preferred office locations are in Wilmington, DE, or Elkridge, MD. Other locations may be available, depending on the candidate’s qualifications.

Preferred qualifications include:

•    Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business management
•    CCP, PSP, or PMP certification
•    Proficiency in Primavera P6, including resource loading
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly MS Excel
•    Thorough understanding of the critical path method (CPM) and earned value management (EVM)
•    Experience with recommended practices for project controls
•    Ability to use project controls tools and create and customize reports to suit client needs
•    Strong presentation and analytical skills
•    Ability to understand and adapt to various client standards, preferences, and procedures
•    Strong communication and relationship building skills
•    Enjoys interacting with people and working with groups
•    Ability to independently get involved in a fast pace project setting
•    Ability to travel as necessary

Responsibilities will include:

•    Develop, maintain, review, and analyze CPM schedules
•    Create schedule layouts for different work scopes, disciplines, and contractors
•    Develop, manage, and forecast project budgets and finances
•    Create and customize project controls reports
•    Review contracts and project specifications and apply them to project tasks
•    Contribute to writing letters, narratives, and reports
•    Present project status reports at team meetings
•    Work with a program and project management team
•    Travel to project sites for status meetings when required

Alpha 3 is seeking a designer to support high voltage substation engineering projects through conceptual and detailed design. Designers will apply knowledge and experience to create new drawings and revise existing drawings with guidance from engineering personnel, working in an integrated project team environment. Designers will use their knowledge of components, arrangements, and standards to complete deliverables including one-lines, schematics, layouts, site plans, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and bills of material.

  • Knowledge of electrical substations including familiarity with the physical characteristics, access, connection, and support requirements for transformers, breakers, disconnects, buswork, and associated equipment
  • Knowledge of common substation configurations, clearance requirements, and layouts
  • Adaptation to various client drafting standards and procedures
  • Knowledge of Microstation and/or AutoCAD
  • Ability to work on a team and on multiple projects
  • Ability to visualize and design work in 2D and 3D
  • Ability to understand and incorporate comments and feedback
  • Personal time management skills and ability to adhere to deadlines
  • Attention to detail and pride in work product quality
  • Utility project experience
  • Associates degree or equivalent experience

P&C engineers will analyze, evaluate, and create new designs and drawings and revise existing designs and drawings with guidance from senior engineering personnel, as needed. Engineers will work in an integrated project team environment and use their knowledge of components, arrangements, and standards to complete deliverables including one-lines, schematics, layouts, site plans, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and bills of material.

  • A master’s degree in electrical power engineering or at least two years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of electrical substations including familiarity with the physical characteristics, access, connection, and support requirements for transformers, breakers, disconnects, buswork, and associated equipment
  • Knowledge of electrical codes including NEC and NESC
  • Familiarity with common protection requirements, protection schemes, and application of digital relays
  • Knowledge of common substation configurations
  • Adaptation to various client standards and procedures
  • Knowledge of Microstation and/or AutoCAD
  • Ability to work on a team and on multiple projects
  • Ability to understand and incorporate comments and feedback
  • Personal time management skills and ability to adhere to deadlines
  • Attention to detail and pride in work product quality
